Abstract:

Introduction and objective: Diabetes Mellitus type 2 (DM2) is one of the pathologies that, together with dyslip-idemias and arterial hypertension are considered a global threat in the last decades due to the cardiovascular complications that have been increasing, therefore, it is necessary to investigate issue and establish the predominant risk factors. Materials and methods: A descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out on 220 patients with DM2 who attended the Donum Foundation between September 2013 and May 2014, who were randomly sampled without probabilistic sampling. A data collection instrument that evaluated sociodemographic, laboratory and clinical variables was used. Conclusions: patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus who attend the external consultation of the Donum Foundation maintain a regular and bad lifestyle, evidenced by a high percentage of overweight, obesity, hypertension, hyperglycemia, high HbA1c values and triglycerides; results that determine the risk of a cardiovascular event.
