Causas y frecuencia del pterigión en pacientes adultos atendidos en consulta externa de oftalmología del Hospital del Día-Azogues periodo julio - noviembre 2017
Abstract:
BACKGROUND: the pterygium is present a common worldwide, common pathology in hot and dry weathers, with predominance in countries understood between the 40 ones belonging to north and Southern, more in the rural than urban, and there are no differences between sexes when they have the same living conditions. GENERAL OBJECTIVE: determining causes and the frequency of the pterygium in patient adults attended in outpatient department of ophthalmology of the Hospital del Día-Azogues lost july - november of 2017. METHODOLOGY: It came true a descriptive study, observacional, retrospective and transverse with 553 adult patients with diagnosis of pterygium that attended to outpatient department of ophthalmology of the clinical of the Hospital del Día-Azogues from July - November 2017. The data of the case histories were analyzed with SPSS version 19,0. The average and standard deviation for the age were calculated, and frequencies and percentages for the qualitative categorized variables. RESULTS: the largest number of patients is between 45 and 64 years old (35.3%), with the feminine sex predominance as of urban areas. The most common occupations are farmer and the work with computers. The location is mainly in the nasal portion, without a distinction of laterality. The predominant symptoms were weeping, itching and the reddening. The surgical treatment was the most employed. FINDINGS: One third of the patients attended in outpatient department of Ophthalmology of the Hospital del Día-Azogues since July to November 2017 attend for pterygium, caused pathology for the exposition to the daylight
