Cerebral and ocular cysticercosis: Sequential therapy using albendazole and praziquantel
Abstract:
We report a patient with cerebral and intraocular cysticercosis who presented with a syndrome of intracranial hypertension without localizing signs and normal CT scans of the head, MRI showed multiple parenchymal brain cysticerci as well as an ocular cyst located in the subretinal space. The patient was treated with albendazole and praziquantel with favorable clinical outcome and resolution of all cysts on control neuroimaging studies. The rare presentation of multiple parenchymal brain cysts together with intraocular cysts is emphasized as well as the excellent clinical outcome after therapy with cysticidal drugs and corticosteroids.
