Characterization of a bovine coronavirus strain

Abstract:

Bovine coronavirus is a RNA virus, located inside the Nidovirales order, Coronaviridae family, Coronavirus gender. In Cuba, after virus isolation was obtained one autochthon strain, called Guayabal, then the objective of this paper was make a physical, chemical and biological characterization of this strain for to use as reference. The Guayabal strain was stable to different pH, sensitive to the chloroform and to the temperature, agglutinated red globules of mouse, rat and hamster, this strain multiplied in different cell lines similar to Kakegawa standard strain. The results of the characterization of this strain open the doors to future investigations guided to the development of vaccinat candidates and antiviral for which becomes necessary to have a reference strain, with physical, chemical and biological defined characteristics.
