Characterization of factors that influence on the low scientific production of universities using social network analysis

Abstract:

Over the years, social structures have been transformed into complex combinations, leading to an increase in the analysis of their behavior. Precisely, a problem concerning them can be found in higher education institutions where low scientific production has a significant impact on quality indicators. Given this situation, this article describes a study on the not visible complexities in the low scientific production of universities, applying the analysis of social networks as a tool to discover patterns of such production. To do it, five different networks were built based on personal information, work, academic content publications, thesis management, and undergraduate and postgraduate studies of university professors. Based on the interpretation of each of these networks, the factors that influence the scientific publications carried out were extracted.
