Characterization of the chain of supply of tourism services in Ecuador

Abstract:

Tourism is one of the activities that generates income for the country, however, the supply process within its supply chain limits the actions of the sector. Therefore, the objective is to characterize the supply chain for the provision of tourist services in Ecuador, taking into account that tourism is a direct source of income for the population, in addition, considering the economic composition at the longitudinal and cross-sectional level, of so that the development of productive activities in the tourist destination is known. The work is oriented from the perspective of the development of breadth and length, aspects within the supply chain that have not been applied at the tourism level. The research is carried out under the critical and quantitative social approach; Information is supported by searching the state databases, and is complemented by the application of 308 surveys to companies in the tourism sector. The results show that the supply chain from its breadth is made up of tourist agents: gastronomy, hotels, recreation, travel agencies and transportation; and from its length through direct and indirect channels. It is concluded that, in the tourism sector, the supply chain requires 4.8 suppliers per location, with the exception of travel agencies, which requires 8.8 suppliers, the composition indicates that the suppliers are mainly national; Of these, by directing resources for innovation in tourism products and / or services, the benefits in the economy can be increased.
