Characterization of the mechanically alloyed Fe-Co-Ag system by electrical resistivity measurements

Abstract:

The phase transformations occurring during the mechanical alloying process of the Fe-Co-Ag system for different Ag compositions and keeping the equiatomic FeCo ratio, was investigated. High energy ball milling of mixed elemental powders with nominal composition of Fex-Cox-Ag 100-2x were studied for different milling periods Heat treatments of the mechanically alloyed powders were performed and structural characterization of the sintered powders was carried out. In the present work the electrical resistivity Fe-Co-Ag, alloys prepared by mechanical alloying and further sintered has been measured as a function of milling time and Ag content. A model to pbkp_redict the electrical resistivities based on the equivalent electrical circuit analysis technique considering an inter-grain contribution from the grain and phase boundaries has been applied.
