Chemical treatment for a heavy crude oil/diluent separation unit
Abstract:
A laboratory methodology was devised to study the corrosiveness and possible mitigation of overhead unit fluids used during heavy and extra-heavy secondary crude oil recovery. The method consists of using fresh fluid collected out of the column top (after being condensed) and then measuring corrosion rates in an electrochemical glass cell, built in-house with the aid of the linear polarization technique. It aims to find the most cost-effective film inhibitor and neutralizing amine mixture.
