Chitin as direct compression excipient II

Abstract:

Chitin is an atoxic, natural, biodegradable polymer and very stable product. It has shown great possibilities as auxiliary substance in the pharmaceutical field. This work is aimed to continue the evaluation of de Chitin powder which was obtained in Cuba as a direct compression excipient. The influence of particle size on the characteristics of the powder such as: flow, compressibility, density and moisture content were determinated. In addition its compatibility was compared with other excipients traditionally used in pharmaceutical field: Emcompress y Microcel MC 101, determining their dilution potential. Pure Chitin shows better results as direct compression excipient for Diazepan 5% tablets compared to different mixtures of Chitin and Microcel MC 101.
