A wide-ranging conservation

Abstract:

When researchers from the Macaulay Land Use Research Institute (MLURI) in Scotland realised that landscape changes in the Orkney Islands had major habitat implications, they looked for ways to pbkp_redict the effects of those changes. By studying landscape ecology and applying a GIS, they built a wide-area conservation evaluation tool, which they used to study Short-eared Owls on Orkney. More importantly, the approach they used could have a general application to other landscapes.
