Climatic variability in the equatorial sierra in relation to the ENSO phenomenon.

Abstract:

A preliminary study was carried out to analyse climatic alterations due to ENSO in the Sierra and to understand meteorological parameters that control this variability. Rainfall, temperature and relative humidity were studied for a 30-year period at 20 sites. The results showed that, contrary to the coastal zone where precipitation increases during the presence to El Nino, the Sierra does not show a uniform response. During the humid period (October-May), large variability was not observed, but during the dry months (June-August), a significant decrease in precipitation occurred in comparison with the average.
