Clinical engineering in Venezuela


Abstract:

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela provides public health coverage to all its inhabitants through the National Public Health System (NPHS). The NPHS is responsible for the entire public health infrastructure including hospitals and primary healthcare facilities. Since the 1970s, Venezuela has been developing healthcare maintenance and clinical engineering infrastructure to support health care. Simon Bolivar University has had a fundamental role in the Development of Clinical Engineering in Venezuela, including the creation of one of the first Master Programs in the region. This article presents Clinical Engineering in Venezuela from a Historical Perspective, including the current state of the organization and the contributions provided by Simon Bolivar University.
