Coexistence of congeneric species of" Acartia"(Copepoda) in disturbed systems: An approach through niche theory
Abstract:
A priori, the stressed coastal ecosystem was considered to be rather homogeneous and to be occupied by a simple planktonic community. Competitive interactions should be strong and segregation of species in relation to space or time was the expected result. However, the analysis of niche breadth and overlap shows a slight segregation. During summer all the species coexist and are abundant, those of smaller niche breadth being favoured. Also the competitive phenomena affecting community structure show some degree of variability in relation to space
