Cognitive development and family functionality of infants in the urban-marginal communities of Ecuador


Abstract:

Nowadays, families with sons and daughters, establish different questions from research into the various demands of attention of state systems such as education, health, economic and security, intermediaries of social conditions for family functionality. The research aimed to determine the relationship between cognitive development and family functioning of school-age infants. The results was obtained through a methodology of quantitative approach, correlational scope and cross-section, through a simple random sampling consisting of 27 infants aged 8 to 12 years, from the communities of southern Guayaquil, Ecuador. The exploration and evaluation instruments applied were structured according to the piloting of the diagnostic protocol in childhood, developed by the team of researchers. Among the main results, is that family functionality does not significantly influence cognitive development, however, family typology is related to functionality, in addition to maintaining the traditional structure with the role of caregivers by women. In conclusion, the need to investigate and intervene on issues related to family ties, community and networks is established; in addition to the involvement of state services and universities, in comprehensive research.
