Community noise assessment of a flour mill located in Quito, Ecuador
Abstract:
The present work studies the noise emission from the engine room of a flour mill located at the south part of the Metropolitan District of Quito, in order to compare them with the permitted levels marked on local legal framework. The in-field measurement procedure it's the same detailed in Quitòs municipal code 213 that considers near field analysis, also far field data was collected to study the engine room as only one source. Local authorities applied a fine of $10.000 dollar to the flour mill based on nighttime measurement at 3 meters from the companỳs terrain boundary that consider 68 dB(A) emitted from the sources, this analysis was performed in wet conditions due to rain. In this study it was discovered that the mentioned level is not real and that the real emission level is 11 dB(A) bellow.
