Comparative Analysis of the Performance of Electric and Internal Combustion Buses in the Load and Orography Conditions of Loja City

Abstract:

Worldwide, passenger transportation by buses is one of the main sources of pollution, generating large amounts of CO2. The use of fossil fuels, global warming and environmental pollution affect the economy and the health of society. Implementing electric transportation will reduce environmental problems. Electric buses are part of a new market that is growing rapidly. Most governments have promoted new policies, incentives and laws for the massification of the electric transportation. This work carries out a comparative mathematical analysis of the performance between electric and internal combustion buses that calculates the necessary energy and power based on the of the number of passengers (load), speed and slopes of the route. The model is validated with a simulation of two routes and its data compared with the information in the bus catalogs. The model is tested under load and orography conditions for the city of Loja and calculates the power and energy of the diesel and electric bus necessary for Loja city.
