Comparative study of digital filtering algorithms for the application of relays during fault conditions


Abstract:

This article presents a comparative study of digital filtering algorithms used by the numerical relay to perform the phasor estimation during failure conditions, the study was performed on the MATLAB / Simulink platform. The algorithms were compared: Full-cycle Fourier, Full-cycle Walsh, Cosine, Least Error Squares, and Adaptive Mimic Filter. In this study we simulated and applied different types of symmetric and asymmetric faults by varying the distance, we evaluated the dynamic behavior of each type of digital filtering algorithm, through the use of standardized performance indicators, and finally we created a comparative table that Shows the performance results of each type of algorithm used for each of the simulated failures.
