Comparative study of the level of bullying in students from a public and private institution


Abstract:

In this research, it is proposed to compare the level of bullying in relation to the type of school management (public or private), using the School Bullying and Violence test (AVE) designed by Iñaki and Piñuel. Secondly, it is intended to identify received forms of harassment and the possible clinical damage that reveal the existence of psychological affectation through scales of physical and psychological abuse. Finally, the influence of the variables: age, sex, and monthly family income on the type of institution. 160 students from 14 to 16 years of age of the tenth year of Basic Education in the province of Tungurahua, Ecuador are evaluated. The research design is quantitative and cross-sectional comparative. The data are analyzed with the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) program and applying Pearson’s Chi-square. The research results show the presence of bullying among peers in both institutions, however, there is a higher incidence in the public sector with levels from almost high to very high with 48.7%.
