ALGORITHM FOR PARAMETER ESTIMATION WITH MULTIPLE UNDEFINED SOLUTIONS: THE BLENDING PROBLEM.

Abstract:

In industrial applications involving the blending of materials, some parameters of the components must be estimated from measurements on the blend. Under normal operating conditions, multiple solutions are valid and so the actual value of the parameters can not be estimated without additional information. In this paper we present a solution to this problem when both a set of blend measurements and some statistical information about the parameters is allowed. The algorithm is developed in a non recursive form. Some approximations allow its adaption to the recursive case and its applications to the estimation of time variable parameters. The proposed algorithm has been applied to the estimation of raw materials composition in the crude elaboration process of a cement factory. Main results of this application are reported.
