Abstract:

This study aims to describe the prevalence of MS in postmenopausal women, evaluating MS components and environmental factors associated. This was a cross-sectional study, which selected a total of 123 patients, between 46-79 years of age, which were in the post menopausal stage, with at least 1 year without menses. Patients were classified according to metabolic syndrome consensus criteria IDF/NHLBI/AHA/WHF/IAS/IASO-2009. Anthropometric parameters, measuring waist circumference, blood pressure measurements, blood samples for glucose and lipid profile were taken and used. The prevalence of MS was 52%. An increase in the occurrence of diagnostic criteria according SM was increasing age (p< 0.05) was observed.
