ANALYSIS AND COMPENSATION IN TEMPERATURE CALCULATIONS USED FOR THE FINISHING MILL SETUP MODEL IN A HSM WITH 2 DIFFERENT REHEAT FURNACES
Abstract:
A project was undertaken in Ternium Mexico (Churubusco plant) to reduce the amount of material off gauge discarded/reprocessed on head ends, because of internal and external customer specifications. Temperature was identified with a predominant role in the calculation done by the mathematical model of the finishing mill. The temperature differed between slab heads, coming from reheating furnaces with notable physical differences: a pusher type and a walking beam type. We developed a modification to compensate the estimated temperature of the bar before the descaling box; projected temperature based on measurement from the last pass of the roughing mill and affected by heat dissipation in the holding tables and the coil box. As a result of this project it was possible to reduce off gauge head end material from an historic behavior of 1.19% to a 0.19% for rolled material in different sizes, chemical and widths.
