ANALYSIS OF THE INFLUENCE OF A STRUCTURED PHYSICAL EDUCATION PROGRAM ON MOTOR COORDINATION AND SELF-ESTEEM IN 6 AND 7-YEAR-OLD CHILDREN

Abstract:

A new Ecuadorian Physical Education curriculum has come into effect in the last five years. The objective of this work is to analyze the incidence of a well-structured Physical Education program on the development of motor coordination and self-esteem of a sample of children aged 6 and 7, following as a basis the contents addressed in the Ecuadorian curriculum. A descriptive-correlational exploratory methodological approach was applied. The sample consisted of 55 students. The information was collected through the Motor Coordination Test [BTCM] and the School Self-esteem Test [TAE]. Comparing the results of the pretest [P] and the posttest [E], an increase is observed in the scores of the means in the different dimensions of the variables. On the other hand, in the inferential analysis there is a correlation coefficient Sp = 0.99 between the dimensions of motor coordination and self-esteem. The positive impact that well structured Physical Education sessions have on the degree of motor coordination and self-esteem in children is confirmed.
