Congenital dysplasia of the tibia: A case report
Abstract:
Congenital Dysplasia of Tibia (CDT), formerly called Congenital Pseudoarthrosis of Tibia, is an uncommon disease characterized by deformity in varus, antecurvatum, and often discrepancy of limb length. Epidemiologically, it is estimated that its incidence worldwide varies between 1: 140,000 and 1: 250,000 live births, it occurs most often in the first 5 years of life and sometimes between 5 and 10 years, but in all patients it takes place in the first decade of life. The etiology is not yet elucidated considering theories such as uterine trauma, fracture at birth, generalized metabolic disorders, and vascular malformations, it has even been evidenced a familiar character that has not been specified from the genetic origin. In the following case report, we describe a patient who was diagnosed and treated with monolateral external fixation in an Ecuadorian health center, obtaining satisfactory results with a little used surgical technique.
