Conocimientos y prácticas de los pacientes con diagnóstico de diabetes que acuden al servicio de endocrinología de la consulta externa del HVCM Cuenca, noviembre 2009, abril 2010


Abstract:

The diabetes mellitus occupies the third place of morbidity in Ecuador, is a permanent condition that it requires of the self medication, the person responsible for this self medication is the one that lives with the diabetes mellitus, including actions directed to the prevention and the treatment of complications. With this antecedent and with the aim of Identifying knowledge and practices of the patients with diagnosis of diabetes that go to the service of endocrinology of External Consulta of the HVCM, a descriptive investigation was developed, using the qualitative and quantitative investigation and applying the technique of the survey; The study universe was 100 patients who go to External Consulta of the HVCM from which she was taken as she shows 50 diabetic patients, investigation that was realized during the period of January and February of the 2010. By means of this investigation which was identified that of 22% of the diabetic patients they do not know on the diabetes, the cares and the complications, influences directly in the evolution of the disease. According to the realized investigation it is important to emphasize that the knowledge that have the patients about the diabetes mellitus, will allow to prevent complications and to improve the quality of life of the diabetic patients. The professionals of the health must be able to teach, the practical tools that they promote the health and the quality of his life: with the collaboration of the members of the equipment of health, the same that must be directed to the diabetic patient and his family like members of the network of social support.
