Conocimientos, actitudes y prácticas, sobre protección solar en los estudiantes de sexto y séptimo de básica de la escuela urbana bilingüe Nuestra Familia vs escuela rural Joaquín Fernández Córdova. Cuenca. 2016


Abstract:

BACKGROUND: High levels of solar radiation cause damage to human health, as previous studies indicate that the inhabitants of rural areas are more vulnerable to such damages, so it is necessary to inform the children of the city of Cuenca about these dangers. To promote changes in their lifestyles through the use of expanded programs of sun protection to all sectors, this should have simple and effective strategies for schools. OBJECTIVE: To determine the knowledge, attitudes and practices, about sun protection among sixth and seventh students of basic of the Escuela Urbana Bilingüe Nuestra Familia vs. Rural School Joaquín Fernández Córdova. DESIGN METHODOLOGICAL: Is a descriptive study, for the data collection a questionnaire, for the validation of the same was consulted the opinion of experts, in addition a pilot test was carried out to 60 students from other schools. The studied universe consists of 162 students of sixth and seventh of basic, the data were analyzed in the program SPSS 15.0 and Excel. RESULTS: The minimum age was 10 years, the maximum 13 years; with a mean age of 11.04 years, 50.6% are male. In urban schools, 37.04% had adequate knowledge vs 28.40% of rural schools (p = 0.313), In urban schools, , 81.48% had adequate attitudes vs 71,60% rural schools, finally 11.1% of students of rural schools reported having appropriate practices vs 3,70% urban school. CONCLUSIONS: We demonstrated a low percentage of adequate knowledge that the participants have in this research, which is consistent with world literature; with better knowledge in urban areas but better practices in rural areas. On the contrary, attitudes are adequate in both schools.
