Construcción de un Cuestionario de Rasgos de Personalidad con Fines de Orientación Profesional para el Programa de Admisiones de la Universidad Politécnica Salesiana-Ecuador


Abstract:

The purpose of this paper is to report the main results of the development and validation process of a personality traits questionnaire designed to contribute with relevant information to the analysis of compatibility between the careers offered by the Salesian Polytechnic University (UPS) and the professional-vocational profile of university applicants. Considering that professional orientation is based on the determination of models of desirable traits and profiles, the identification of those personality traits most suitable for studying a specific career can constitute a decisive complementary factor for vocational evaluation, allowing for a more effective professional orientation. The present study takes as a reference Allport's (1970) trait theory, which assumes personality as the integration of all the traits and characteristics of the individual that determine a way of behaving. The study involved the participation of 875 university applicants to the careers offered by UPS in the 2017-2017 academic period. The Personality Traits Questionnaire (CUPER-UPS) applied to the participants of the study has scales that allow evaluating the following characteristics: Leadership, Responsibility, Self-Control, Sociability, Sensitivity, Resourcefulness, Invention, Interpersonal Confidence, Vigor, and Psychic Maladjustments. Given the complexity of the personality traits to be measured, we proceeded to use Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) in order to identify the possible dimensions that make up each scale.
