Consumo audiovisual en Guayaquil antes y durante el confinamiento por la COVID-19 - Estudio de los públicos de series de 30 a 59 años: plataformas, dispositivos y canales de comunicación
Abstract:
During the last two decades, the consumption of series has changed notoriously because of technological advances like streaming, which give more freedom and comfort to viewers. This is accompanied by a change in the way series are perceived, reaching more popularity and prestige. More recently, the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the lives of millions of people around the world and in cities like Guayaquil, where strict security measures resulted in the social confinement of its inhabitants, the effects are incalculable. The objective of this study is to describe the consumption of series by the people of Guayaquil between the ages of 30 and 59 before and during the confinement, focusing on the preferred platforms and devices as well as the channels of communications used to get information. To accomplish this objective, a mixed approach was used. This incorporated a survey answered by a representative sample of the city’s populations along with a semi-structured interview to fifteen people of the studied group. The results showed that the use of digital platforms to watch series is a widespread activity amongst this group of people and that the streaming service Netflix is the most popular, something that remained true before and during the confinement.
