Content Selection Trace Among Media Platforms
Abstract:
Audience choices in a new media environment are a persistent concern for all those involved in the content production process. This research explores how certain content behaves across media platforms; the context of the research is the Ecuadorian public, utilizing an instrument created by academic and governmental peers. The investigation begins by defining concepts related to media and their coexistence—supported by the media ecology approach-; the most used devices in media consumption; the most widely selected media platforms; how content topics are chosen based on media platforms; and finally, the results of the study. Among these outcomes, the importance of mobile devices stands out, as well as the use of up-to-date platforms—such as social media or YouTube—and how entertainment is the prominent content consumed in the media through platforms.
