Controlled antenna design method based on the use of characteristic modes
Abstract:
This work introduces some results focused on pointing out the benefits of the Theory of Characteristic Modes for antenna design. In contrast with other design strategies based on evolutionary algorithms or trial and error procedures, this theory brings clear insight into the physical phenomena taking place in the antenna. The characteristic modes of a rectangular ground plane and those of two rectangular plates placed one next to the other will be presented. Finally, some optimum feed configuration using multiple feed points will be proposed for various planar antennas.
