Abstract:

The present investigation analyzes the issue of the laity taking into account the lights and shadows that have been projected in the historical journey of the Church. Fundamentally, it seeks to respond to the permanent and still current situation of clericalism in the clergy-laity relationship and how, in the theological and ecclesiological debate, it has been looking for possible ways of improvement and proposal. Faced with this situation, efforts are made to identify the visions of the laity before, during and after the Second Vatican Council in order to find clues, orientations, challenges or guidelines that may contribute to a relaunch and resignification of the laity in the current context.
