Corporate Social Responsibility and Employer Attractiveness


Abstract:

Attracting and retaining young people with superior skills and knowledge is a primary source of long-term competitive advantage for companies. Theoretical and empirical work suggests a positive effect of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) on employer attractiveness. However, this effect varies depending on the area or dimension of CSR. In addition, values and cultural variables seem to play a role in the importance of different employer characteristics when choosing a job/an employer. At the same time, research suggests that millennials and the upcoming generation of employees, when deciding for a job, place less importance on material factors and search for purpose and identification with their employer.
