Cost of routine immunisation of infants less than one year-old in Ecuador
Abstract:
Immunisation is considered one of the health technologies with greater cost effectiveness for public health worldwide, and has contributed to reducing the burden of disease associated with immuno-preventable diseases of childhood. The objective of this work is to estimate the direct costs generated by routine immunisation in children under one year of age in Ecuador in 2016. For the estimation of costs, the government's perspective as the third party payer was taken into account and the direct medical and non-medical costs associated with the routine immunisation established for the year of the study were included, using the dollar as currency in the 2016 period. It was estimated that the cost of a child under one year who completes routine immunisation in Ecuador for 2016 was 106.193 USD, and that the total cost of immunisation for children under one year in Ecuador in 2016, considering a coverage rate 74.6%, would be approximately 26,476,994.497 USD.
