Cost optimization of the AISI-1018 turning process under sustainable manufacturing
Abstract:
The objective of this article is to propose a cost model that can be used by any type and size of manufacturing company that uses turning processes, anywhere in the world and that is oriented to the optimization of resources, since it has a direct effect on the environmental and economic impact, by reducing waste, avoiding pollution for society and obtaining a monetary benefit. For this, the model adopted conforms to the practical working conditions and the recommendations of both the tool manufacturer, as well as international standards, to machine AISI 1018 steel, which is one of the most common and used materials in the world, for the manufacture of a great variety of mechanical elements, using the CNMG 12 04 08 insert, on a CNC lathe, which allows precise control of the machining parameters and through which the Taylor constants have been obtained experimentally, the results of which validated are satisfactory and as a preliminary step, to finally determine the minimum cost equation of the turning process, which in turn allows to determine the optimal insert cutting speed, which must be within the recommendations and ranges indicated by the manufacturer and also It is possible to determine the life time of the insert, in order to be able to change the insert in a suitable and timely manner.
