Covid-19 and social reflexivity. How the outbreak of a pathogen is affecting our everyday life

Abstract:

We want to make a first approach to the behavioral patterns that individuals share throughout the different stages of development of the pandemic. To achieve this aim, we address screen-mediated communication practices, particularly the uses of instant messaging tools as means of information, communication, and emotion during the social distancing caused by the pandemic. Specifically, we focus on the popular WhatsApp messaging app, a key technological tool that mediates social interaction in our primary and secondary social groups, but also in all social communication around this phenomenon.
