Delimiting protective zones of aquifer captations destined to public water supply of Montemor-o-Novo (Portugal)

Abstract:

In the definition of the wellhead protection zones around Montemor-o-Novo wells used for public water supply, three analytical methods are used (calculated ficed radius method, Wyssling method and Krijgsman and Lobo Ferreira method) as well as the ASMWIN numerical method. The full set of results are comparatively analysed and also compared with the legislation. The final step consists in the creation, with stochastic simulations, of heterogeneous distributions of hydraulic conductivity, later used in the numerical model for the definition of new wellhead protection zones. The presented work was developed in the scope of a master thesis (Moinante, 2002).
