Detection of biochemistry compounds related with defence response in Musa spp. plants artificially inoculated with Mycosphaerella fijiensis.
Abstract:
Knowledge about biochemical events involved in both compatible and incompatible interaction in Musa-M. fijiensis pathosystem it is still very limited. Then, the use of tools to study fast and simply plant defence mechanisms against the pathogen is very necessary. The aim of this study was to detect defence related compounds in leaves of Musa sp. plants inoculated with M. fijiensis, using histochemical techniques. Histochemical techniques were used to visualize lignin, hydrogen peroxide and phenolic compounds in different states of symptoms in Musa acuminata genotypes:'Grande naine'(susceptible) and'Calcutta 4'(resistant). It was observed the presence of lignin deposition and accumulation of hydrogen peroxide and phenolics in plant tissue in all the disease symptoms either in susceptible or resistant genotypes. The presence of these compounds increased with the development of symptoms. The accumulation of hydrogen peroxide was greater in'Calcutta 4'plants compared to'Grande naine'. Results showed that using histochemical techniques, the accumulation of some biochemical compounds related to plant defence response against pathogen infection could be observed. These results provide further evidences of the mechanisms of plant defence in Musa-M. fijiensis interaction.
