Effect of the inoculum density of Criconemella ornata and Criconemella palustris on the growth of rice, cv. CR 5272.
Abstract:
The response of rice (cv. CR 5272) to the inoculation of 0, 150, 300, 450 and 600 specimens/pot with 600 ml of soil, of the ring nematodes Criconemella ornata and Criconemella palustris, was evaluated in Costa Rica under greenhouse conditions. The root fresh weight was reduced by Criconemella ornata. There were no statistically significant differences among treatments in plant height, width of the youngest central leaf, fresh weight of tops and stem diameter with either of the 2 species. The C. palustris reproduction rate was always< 1. The results led to the conclusion that C. ornata and C. palustris were unable to damage rice under the conditions prevailing during these tests.
