Enhancing Students’ Speaking Performance in a TOEFL Course through ICT Tasks at Unidad Educativa Particular Interamericano.
Abstract:
The problem found at Unidad Educativa Particular Interamericano was studied through action research. The first part of this research starts with a revision of speaking theories and the speaking learning processes.Furthermore, aspects as the role of speaking in a TOEFL examination and teachers’ attitudes towards the skill are mentioned. In regards with the literature review, it provides findings about ICTs, their role in education and their advantages. Moreover, facts about the importance of speaking ina TOEFL program and teachers’ attitude towards theskill are also mentioned. Likewise, several online applications were revised in order to define specific strategies. An action research methodology was employed to study the problem. The research contains information encompassing class observations and students’ diagnostic evaluation and activity assessment. Checklists and corresponding results were used as data collection instrument for further analysis. After the analysis, it was concluded that lesson implementation in class needs to be improved. Thus, aproposal was designed to accomplish this goal. It consists on the implementation of two strategies using applications as YouTube and Padlet. Matrices and checklists are used to describe the objective and process for each strategy as well as an adapted evaluation instrument.
