Evaluating the uncertainty of leakage rates of Tejo and Sado groundwater system

Abstract:

In order to evaluate the uncertainty of the leakage rates, a geostatical approach based on conditional simulation techniques is used here to study the influence of the spatial variability of the transmissivity and the leakage parameter via the numerical model. A special emphasis is given to the uncertainty analysis of phenomena induced by leakage such as: contamination from the sea or from the estuary and capture from pumping, and to the analysis of dispersion of up and downward leakage rates in relation to the particular system boundary conditions. Both steady state and transient models are used and results are analysed in a global sense (probability distribution function outputs) and in a grid by grid sense (boxplots outputs). -from Author
