Animal feed contamination by toxic metals
Abstract:
In agricultural regions dietary contamination represents the main source of toxic metals exposure to livestock. This chapter first reviews current data on toxic metal concentrations in animal feedstuffs and husbandry practices related to toxic metal exposure. The chapter then focuses on the effect of toxic metal exposure on animal health and carry-over into food, analysing what are, at the current knowledge, the maximum toxic metal tolerable levels in animal feed that do not pose a risk for animal health and food safety. © 2012 Woodhead Publishing Limited All rights reserved.
