Geología de la Formación Canoa (Plioceno), acantilados del sector El Mangle, cantón Montecristi, provincia de Manabí

Abstract:

The Canoa Formation located in the El Mangle Sector, Manabí Province, Montecristi Canton, consist in sandstone, clayey sandstone, silty sandstone, and silty mudstone, underlies the Tablazo Formation, and overlaps the Angostura Formation. The objective of this investigation is to determine the lithology, essentials mineralogical composition, deposition, tectonic provenance biostratigraphy and paleoenvironment. Five outcrops were described, nineteen biostratigraphy and lithology samples, three thin sections to determine tectonic petrotectonic and petrography. The relative age of the Canoa Formation is Pliocene (Zone N18-N19) because of the occurrence of the planktonic foraminifera presents and extinguished in that period. The sedimentary paleoenvironment is the Inner Platform, due to the abundance of the benthic foraminifera calcareous and agglutinated found in the Formation.
