Motivation: Personalization of contents to reduce dropout rates

Abstract:

Motivation is a factor that influences students' level of commitment to accomplishment a MOOC course. In this paper, authors analyzed the motivation of the student through the content personalization of the MOOC. Student answered a pre-assessment that showed the student's initial knowledge before starting the MOOC. The pre-assessment gave suggestions about the learning path the student should follow. The pre-assessment categorized student's knowledge into four levels of knowledge: 'initial', 'developing', 'developed' and 'high development'. Three post-assessments were applied next. Comparison between the approval results from PAO2- 2019 and 2020 shows that in 2019 15% of students approved the MOOC and in 2020, 41% of students approved the MOOC.
