Networked integrated environment to support pediatrics care

Abstract:

This chapter describes a networked integrated environment specially designed for patients follow-up in neonathology and pediatrics. The system allows professionals to manage children clinical information from birth, at hospital, to the age of seven years old. Along these stages, follow-up is performed at health centres and requires high interaction among involved specialists, specially in case of children with congenital problems or high risk of suffering impairments. The network features provide easy access to information resources from a variety of locations: hospitals or health centres. It is based on a "database driver" model, which results transparent to users avoiding them the need of data search. The results showed that users accept the system in their work environment, and concluded that the proposed new system features and capabilities improve health care quality. © 1997 The authors.
