A New Giant Outburst from the Accreting X-ray Pulsar EXO 2030+ 375
Abstract:
During the summer of 2006, the accreting X-ray pulsar EXO 2030+ 375 underwent its first giant outburst since its discovery in 1985. The discovery was at the peak of the 1985 giant outburst, so our observations are the first ever of the rise of a giant outburst of EXO 2030+ 375. Here we will present flux and frequency histories from our RXTE observations leading up to and during the current giant outburst. We will also present pulse profile variations and search for possible quasi-periodic observations. In conjunction with our RXTE observations, we monitored EXO 2030+ 375's companion in the optical/IR bands. We will also present results of this monitoring, leading up to and during the giant outburst.
