Technologies in Inclusive Education for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder: Experiences of use in developing economies
Abstract:
The use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) as supporting tools in inclusive education for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) has been widely discussed. However, a subject lacking in research is contrasting the difficulties that these children experience during their schooling, linked to the use of ICT resources within the educational system in developing economies. This study analyses the existing implications of including children with ASD in a comprehensive educational plan supported by ICT. Following a mixed qualitative-quantitative method, a triangulated analysis is carried out, beginning with a systematic review of the literature, followed by interviews and surveys of teachers and parents involved. The results reveal psychosocial aspects and limitations of children with ASD within pedagogical environments, determining the relevance of ICT use in more inclusive digital education environments.
