User Experience Evaluation in MOOC Platforms: A Hybrid Approach
Abstract:
Massive Open Online Course (MOOCs) have become one of the most popular trends in global education, however, most of them do not meet users’ expectations and satisfaction. The objective is to identify existing publications regarding User Experience (UX) evaluation in MOOC platforms in order to discover trends and identify different evaluation approaches such as existing evaluation methods, techniques or tools, as well as how they are classified and combined. For this purpose, the systematic mapping approaches of Petersen et al. (2015) and the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) of Torres et al. (2018) are employed. The systematic mapping sample corresponds to 33 relevant articles and 21 primary studies of the SLR process. The findings reveal that both usability and UI are most frequently evaluated, however, attention needs to be paid to other MOOC technology criteria such as MOOC videos. Therefore, it is necessary to consolidate existing findings for future research.
