Niveles de Autoestima de Niños, Niñas y Adolescentes Migrantes Venezolanos en Guayaquil
Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to describe the self-esteem levels of immigrant children and teenagers from Venezuela that study in the Middle and Superior General Basic Education sub-levels in Guayaquil public, public-commissioned and private schools between the years 2020 and 2021. The tool used was the Self-esteem Test for Students (Ruiz, 2003) to which socio demographic and schooling items were added. The work is done with a total of 68 students that are in General Basic Education (middle and superior) 63 of them go to practice at the Child and Teenager Baseball League of Miraflores, on the northern sector of Guayaquil and 5 go to the Manos Venezolanas foundation, on the Liga del Sur sports complex, located at the south sector of the city. The program SPSS was used for the data analysis, this showed that when comparing the different levels of both the high self-esteem, and the low self-esteem, the tendencies are close. It was demonstrated that the components proposed on the Self-esteem Test for Students made by César Ruiz Alva, result favorable for the self-esteem of the Venezuelan migrant children and teenagers, being the self-esteem component with the most positive answers, the "motivation" one. The results indicated that the children and teenager migrants that are from 13 to 16 years of age are the ones that presented the highest levels of self-esteem, which is also true for those who study on the Superior General Basic Education and show a similar trend. It was also observed that the sustainability of the school on which they study is not determining the results of this study. Most of the students said they lived with their mother and dad and the trend of high self-esteem prevailed over the opposite trend, low self-esteem. Another interesting discovery is that the respondents mostly feel accepted by their teachers and classmates. About the time that they were living in Guayaquil, this variable didn't show an important variation in their frequencies. Consequently, we cannot affirm that migration influences or affects the self-esteem of migrant children and teenagers.
