Proximate composition of “Mocan” (Visnea mocanera L.f.): A fruit consumed by canary natives
Abstract:
A proximate nutritive composition study (soluble carbohydrates, starch, protein, fat, ash, and dietary fiber) has been carried out on fruits of Visnea mocanera L.f., so called “mocán” fruits. The results obtained have shown a high content of soluble carbohydrates (mainly glucose and fructose) and dietary fiber (mainly cellulose and lignine). Mineral content, fat material, and protein were within the expected ranges for berries. © 1994 by Academic Press, Inc.
