Robotic stimulation for fine motor skills of the upper extremities
Abstract:
This article proposes the construction and control of a robotic hand operated by an electronic glove. The glove includes resistive sensors to capture the deflection of the fingers to be replicated. The data obtained by the glove is processed by a microcontroller to generate control signals, which are transmitted wirelessly using the IEEE 802.15.4 protocol. The frames of the robotic hand were designed and printed using 3D printing technology. In order to maneuver the joints, the robotic hand has five actuators which allow generating movements in each joint of the robotic hand, imitating the gestures that the user executes with the glove. In this way, patients are stimulated to execute activities with their hands observing the gestures made in real time. By performing these repetitive gestures, it is proposed to encourage the motor skills of the joints when executing other daily activities.
