What is the theoretical basis of entrepreneurial learningin engineering education? A case studyanalysisusing constructivism
Abstract:
Entrepreneurial learning has gained ground in engineering education. Several studies have described a wide variety of entrepreneurship courses offered to engineering students. However, most of them have no theoretical approach to understand the learning process within these type of courses. Thus, education theories are needed to create shared meaning of entrepreneurial learning as it expands and evolves. This study is part of ongoing research to evaluate student learning in core-engineering courses focused on technology-based entrepreneurship. It uses mixed methods to explore the approach adopted by the School of Engineering in Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile. We collected qualitative information about course methods to analyze it by using the theory of constructivism. Different constructive elements were identified as problem-based or project-based learning. Then, quantitative data was used to address the learning benefits obtained from these course components. Finally, we discuss implications for the research site and future work.
